Yankees Shortstops To Play Multiple Positions In Camp
2 years agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that infielders Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who are all competing for the Opening Day shortstop job in spring training, will play more than one position in camp. Kiner-Falefa has moved around the diamond his whole career and has even spent time at catcher. He also won a Gold Glove at third base in 2020. Volpe and Peraza have spent their careers mostly at the 6, though. Peraza has played 16 games at second base and none at third, while Volpe has played three games at third and none at second. Volpe and Peraza are young rising prospects for the Yanks, while Kiner-Falefa is the veteran of the group that gives the team the most positional versatility. It's expected that Peraza will win the job, with Volpe starting the year off in the minors for more seasoning.
