Miguel Vargas Has Hairline Fracture In Right Pinky
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Vargas (finger) reportedly has a hairline fracture in his right pinky finger, according to a tweet from The Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett on Monday. Per Plunkett's tweet, the infielder "took a ground ball off the pinkie on his right hand." Plunkett also noted in his tweet that "Activity will be limited for Vargas." and that the 23-year-old "Won't swing for a few days. Then 'Per tolerance.'" Vargas hit .170 with a .200 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 50 plate appearances at the Major League level this past season. He also hit .304 with a .404 on-base percentage, 17 home runs, and 16 stolen bases in 520 plate appearances for Los Angeles' Triple-A affiliate. Capable of playing first base, second base, third base, and left field, Vargas could be in for an expanded role this coming season with the Dodgers.

White Sox Prioritizing Playing Time For Bryan Ramos, Miguel Vargas
6 months agoChicago White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore said he doesn't have a set plan for third baseman Yoan Moncada, who returned from a lengthy stint on the injured list on Monday. Sizemore said the team is going to prioritize seeing infielders Bryan Ramos and Miguel Vargas at the tail end of the 2024 season. Moncada has been out since straining his groin in early April, so it makes sense for the White Sox to ease him back in while giving more run to Ramos and Vargas late in the year. In Monday's game in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, Vargas got the start at the hot corner, with Ramos serving as the designated hitter. Ramos, 22, has hit just over the Mendoza Line with two homers, five RBI and 14 K's in his first 22 big-league games in 2024. Vargas, 24, has had a rough year at the plate this year and is hitting just .112 (11-for-98) with a homer and five RBI in 31 games since being acquired from the Dodgers.

Miguel Vargas Returns To Starting Nine
7 months agoChicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas (eye) is returning to the starting nine on Saturday afternoon and will bat in the eight-hole. Vargas has been kept out of the lineup for the past two games with an eye abrasion that was caused by a collision on September 3. In his past eight games, the 24-year-old has held a .200/.333/.300 line with just four total hits. Fantasy managers should expect Vargas to continue to serve as the everyday second baseman for the remainder of the regular season on the Southside. Vargas does have a favorable matchup this afternoon against Boston right-hander Cooper Criswell who carries a 4.14 ERA but is best to leave off your DFS lineup.

Miguel Vargas Sitting Against Giants
7 months agoChicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas is out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for the series finale at Oracle Park against the San Francisco Giants. With Vargas on the bench, Lenyn Sosa will start at third base and will bat seventh against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Vargas, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline in late July in the trade that sent right-hander Jack Flaherty to LA, could find himself on the bench more often if he continues to slump at the plate. The 24-year-old Cuban has gone just 5-for-54 (.093) with a homer, double, three RBI and 17 strikeouts in 16 games with a bigger role in his move to Chicago. Overall this year, he's hit just .176/.271/.312 with four home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored in 125 at-bats. Vargas is losing his fantasy appeal in AL-only leagues quickly.

Miguel Vargas Headed To The White Sox
8 months agoThe Chicago White Sox acquired infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas as part of a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. Vargas has struggled in his major league career so far, hitting a combined .201 with 14 home runs and 49 RBI over the past three years. This season, the 24-year-old is batting .239 with three HRs and nine RBI across 30 games. While the results haven't been there for Vargas, the White Sox will take a chance on a former top-40 MLB prospect. Despite likely getting everyday playing time in Chicago, he should only be considered in extremely deep fantasy formats. UPDATE: The White Sox acquired second base prospect Jeral Peraz and third baseman Alex Albertus from the Dodgers as part of the three-team trade.
