The Milwaukee Brewers have signed left-hander Justin Wilson to a one-year deal. The 35-year-old is expected to miss a significant chunk of the 2023 season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. However, this deal includes a 2024 club option, so this could end up being a good deal for the Brewers. The southpaw only made five appearances last season, but has been a reliable option throughout his career. This a good move by the Brewers to add depth to their bullpen.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

Free-agent reliever Justin Wilson has signed a major-league deal with the Cincinnati Reds after he opted out of his minor-league pact with the Dodgers on Wednesday. The left-hander last saw big-league action with the Reds in the 2022 season, posting a 2.45 ERA in five appearances but was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2023 campaign, as well. He did appear briefly in the minors with the Brewers last season but the club declined their option on Wilson this winter. The long-time big leaguer has largely been effective in his career, posting a 3.41 ERA and a 25.9% K% across 527 appearances. He certainly won't be in line for saves and likely won't see many hold opportunities, leaving him off the fantasy radar at this point.--Brenton Kemp

The Milwaukee Brewers declined to pick up their 2024 options on left-handed relievers Andrew Chafin ($7.25 million) and Justin Wilson ($2.5 million) on Thursday, making them free agents this offseason. The club also claimed infielder Vinny Capra off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Chafin will get a $725,000 buyout, while Wilson's buyout is worth $150,000. Chafin, 33, wasn't as effective in 2023 with the Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks, sporting a 4.73 ERA (4.02 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, a career-high eight saves and 63 strikeouts in 51 1/3 relief innings. He had a 5.82 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 17 innings for Milwaukee. Wilson, 36, didn't pitch at all in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and also suffering a lat strain in the second half.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed that left-handed reliever Justin Wilson (lat) is done for the rest of the season with a left-lat injury. The Brewers placed Wilson on the 15-day injured list last weekend, and he won't be ready to return for the rest of the year. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw had just returned from the 60-day injured list last Friday after coming back from Tommy John surgery, so it's a tough break for him. Wilson was injured getting ready to enter the game out of the bullpen just before making his 2023 debut. The good news is his lat injury isn't nearly as serious as Tommy John surgery, so he should be ready for spring training next year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated left-handed reliever Justin Wilson (elbow) from the 60-day injured list on Friday and moved left-hander Bennett Sousa (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Wilson is joining the Brewers and will be making his 2023 season debut when he gets into a game after having Tommy John surgery in June of last year. The 35-year-old veteran gave up one run in 6 1/3 minor-league rehab innings while striking out six and walking one. Wilson is unlikely to pitch in high-leverage situations for the Brew Crew bullpen, so he should remain well off the fantasy radar for the rest of the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
