NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 2/19/23
With the trade deadline on March 3 fast approaching, the NHL trade market is starting to heat up. Be aware there could be last-minute scratches, so it's essential to keep track of the latest team news and updates leading up to the games.
NHL DFS Goalies
Filip Gustavsson- DK $8.3K | FD $7.3K
Opponent - Nashville Predators
Gustavsson provided an exceptional performance against the Dallas Stars on Friday, only allowing one goal in regulation before the Minnesota Wild won 2-1 in a shootout. This season, he has earned his spot as the primary starter over veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. The Swedish netminder has started four of Minnesota's last five games, going 2-1-1 with a .949 save percentage in that timeframe.
Currently, he carries a 13-8-2 record with a .928 save percentage and a 2.12 goals-against-average. Minnesota is hosting Nashville, who is in the second half of back-to-back games after defeating the Panthers 7-3 on Saturday. However, the Predators don't typically score many goals and rank seventh-worst in Goals For Per 60 at 2.69.
Others To Consider: Joseph Woll (DK $8.5K | FD $8.9K), Connor Hellebuyck (DK $7.5K | FD $8.2K)
NHL DFS Centers
Auston Matthews -DK $8.5K | FD $10.0K
Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks
The league's worst team, Chicago, may provide Auston Matthews with an opportunity to shine on Sunday. After securing two assists in Toronto's 5-1 win against Montreal on Saturday, the centerman also recorded two shots on goal and one hit. Since his return from a knee injury, Matthews has had back-to-back two-point games, tallying one goal and three assists. He has an excellent chance to continue his post-injury point streak against Chicago, which has given up an average of 3.69 Goals Against Per 60, and their goaltenders often face a high volume of shots at 33.57 Shots Against Per 60.
Tim Stutzle -DK $6.7K | FD $10.3K
Opponent - St. Louis Blues
When Ottawa takes on the St. Louis Blues, Tim Stutzle presents as a great value pick at the center position on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Compared to other top-notch centers like Jack Hughes and Leon Draisaitl, Stutzle's salary is significantly lower. In the Senators' last game, Stutzle contributed one assist, two hits, and seven shots on goal.
Over the past 10 games, he has accumulated four goals, 10 assists, and 31 shots. Meanwhile, St. Louis recently traded away their top center and team leader, Ryan O'Reilly, and suffered a 4-1 loss to the Avalanche on Saturday. Additionally, the Blues rank near the bottom of the league in Goals Against Per 60 at 3.57, providing an opportunity for Stutzle to excel.
Others To Consider: Connor McDavid (DK $9.8K | FD $10.2K), Mathan MacKinnon (DK $8.8K| FD $10.3K)
NHL DFS Wings
William Nylander -DK $7.1K | FD $8.8K
Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks
Like Auston Matthews, William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs could pad his stats against a weak Chicago Blackhawks team Sunday. Nylander has collected three goals and three assists in the last three contests. Just two games ago, Toronto knocked off Chicago 5-2. Nylander netted a goal and added two assists while firing three shots on goal.
Zach Hyman -DK $7.8K| FD $9.0K
Opponent - Colorado Avalanche
Zach Hyman of Edmonton is an excellent option at the wing as they face off against Colorado on Sunday. The Oilers haven't played since Friday when they lost 5-4 in overtime to the New York Rangers. Despite the loss, Hyman still managed to collect two assists. The winger has logged an impressive six goals and 10 assists in the last 10 contests. No matter who Edmonton plays, Hyman benefits from skating alongside Oilers centerman Connor McDavid, who has 42 goals and 59 assists in just 56 games.
Others To Consider: Kyle Connor (DK $7.6K | FD $8.7K), Mikko Rantanen (DK $7.3K| FD $9.4K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Josh Morrissey- DK $6.1 | FD $7.5K
Opponent - New Jersey Devils
Thursday, Winnipeg suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. There was good news, though, for the Jets, as Josh Morrissey had five shots on goal and blocked three shots. The defenseman has been productive all season long, notching 11 goals and 45 assists in 55 games. Winnipeg has a tough task Sunday, but the Devils are in the second half of back-to-back games as they beat Pittsburgh 5-2 on Saturday. Should the Jets get some power play time, Morrissey has been deadly with the man advantage, logging one goal and 22 assists.
Dougie Hamilton- DK $7.7K | FD $7.7K
Opponent - Winnipeg Jets
Consider including Dougie Hamilton of the New Jersey Devils as a defenseman when building your Sunday lineup. Hamilton has been on fire for the last 10 games, recording six goals and nine assists. He has a prime opportunity to continue accumulating points when facing off against Winnipeg, as he just netted a power play goal, registered two hits, and logged one shot in Saturday's win over the Penguins.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Cale Makar (DK $6.8K | FD $7.6K), Roman Josi (DK $8.6K | FD $8.3K)
Stacks of the Day
- COL PP1: Makar-MacKinnon-Rantanen
- TOR PP1: Nylander-Matthews-Marner
- EDM PP1: Hyman-McDavid-Draisaitl
