The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield, has had a bumpy ride since beginning his NFL career five years ago. This offseason, he's hoping for some stability before signing his next contract.
The former No. 1 overall selection has already played for three franchises during his five-year stint in the league, his latest being with the Los Angeles Rams.
Mayfield has struggled with injuries and inconsistency in his first half-decade in the league, but he still has value to offer to an NFL franchise. Will the Rams re-sign him? Let's take a closer look.

Is Baker Mayfield A Free Agent in 2023?
The occasionally controversial QB is heading into the 2023 offseason as an unrestricted free agent. The Rams will most likely not be looking to retain the services of Mayfield, unless or until their injured starting signal caller, Matthew Stafford, retires (there have been rumors he's been thinking about it).
So where does that leave the former Oklahoma Sooners star quarterback who is now on the open market? Some players in the league seem content being a backup and just collecting a paycheck. But from everything Mayfield has said in recent months and judging by his volatile temperament, he is not someone that fits that description.
The talented gunslinger is still only 27 years old and there is plenty of time for him to turn things around. What Baker needs is the right environment, outstanding coaching, and stability. It's unlikely the Rams will be able to provide the stability part, so it's likely he heads elsewhere.
Which Team Will Sign Baker Mayfield in The Offseason?
The most talked about team thinking about bringing in the former Browns, Panthers, and Rams QB is the New Orleans Saints. The Saints had journeyman Andy Dalton as their starter in 2022, but with questions surrounding Jameis Winston, a Baker Mayfield addition could make a lot of sense. If the man who wears the number six on his jersey decides he can stomach the idea of being a backup, he will have more options on the open market.
Teams like the Denver Broncos would love to have him as a safety net behind Russell Wilson, who struggled mightily in 2022. The New England Patriots are also an interesting potential landing spot as their current starter, Mac Jones, has yet to show he is a star in the league. Some competition from Mayfield might be ideal for meeting the organization's goals.
One potential job opportunity for Mayfield is in Tampa Bay because of Tom Brady's recent retirement. Kyle Trask is currently slated to be the Buccaneers' starter; however, the organization might toss around the idea of bringing in a veteran like Baker to give him some competition in the preseason. Whatever happens, the NFL offseason will once again be filled with plenty of suspense, drama, and high levels of intrigue.
