Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet was a popular sleeper in 2022 preseason fantasy drafts but got out to a slow start as the team's offense struggled. However, he eventually got on track and turned in a solid season, so contract extension talks will likely begin this offseason.
Surrounding quarterback Justin Fields with familiar and formidable pass-catchers will be paramount for the franchise's success, so keeping Kmet around for as long as possible could be a good idea.
How did Kmet perform in 2022 and will he receive a contract extension this offseason? Let's get to it.

Cole Kmet 2022 Season Recap
Kmet caught 50 of his 69 targets for 544 yards and seven touchdowns in 17 games. Chicago only totaled 2,958 passing yards on the season, so reaching 500 yards from the tight end spot was more impressive than it appears on the surface.
From a fantasy perspective, he provided several boom weeks and ultimately finished as the TE8 on the year. His 2022 campaign featured four top-six scoring weeks among tight ends.
While there were plenty of weeks that left a lot to be desired, the passing offense failed to be productive in significant stretches, but he overcame the poor situation and provided a nice boost to fantasy teams and DFS lineups at times.
Will the Bears Sign Cole Kmet to an Extension?
It seems Kmet will likely receive a contract extension from the team this offseason with one year remaining on his rookie deal. "I thought he elevated his game from the film that I watched last year to what it was this year," general manager Ryan Poles said. "So that's exciting." That's a solid review from the man in charge, and after leading the team in receiving, an extension makes sense.
However, there's a business side to every deal, so there's no guarantee they'll get it done. All we know now is that things are going in the right direction for Chicago to lock him up long-term.
