New York Jets tight end C.J. Uzomah joined the team in 2022 after an impressive 2021 campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals. Sharing the field with Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, and Ja'Marr Chase, he caught 49 passes for 493 yards and five touchdowns.
However, the Jets also signed Tyler Conklin and drafted Jeremy Ruckert, so it was unclear who would be the primary tight end option in the offense. Ultimately, Conklin became the go-to tight end, with Uzomah taking a back seat to his production. Now, Uzomah's future in New York is unclear.
How did Uzomah perform in 2022 and will he be released this offseason? Let's dive in.

C.J. Uzomah 2022 Season Review
In 15 games, the 30-year-old finished with 21 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He failed to see a target in three games and only saw three or more targets in three games. Needless to say, his production fell mightily as Conklin emerged.
Conklin caught 58 passes for 552 yards and three touchdowns, while Ruckert caught just one pass on two targets for eight yards in his rookie season.
Uzomah was a solid backup tight end, but given preseason expectations, he had a disappointing 2022 campaign.
Will C.J. Uzomah Be Released By The Jets?
Since Uzomah saw a significant drop in usage during the second half of the season, it would make sense that he would be a possible cut candidate with Conklin as the primary tight end. Uzomah is set to make $8 million, which seems like too much for a backup tight end. However, the Jets would have to eat $11 million in dead money if they did cut him.
That said, the Jets will likely keep Uzomah around as insurance or seek a trade partner this offseason. He could have fantasy value in the right system, but he's not on the fantasy radar as long as he's a part-time player behind Conklin.
