Carolina Panthers running back D'Onta Foreman has bounced around the NFL during his five-year career. Foreman was a third-round pick by the Houston Texans from the University of Texas.

He struggled with injuries early in his career, playing only 11 games over the first two years of his career. Unfortunately, the former Longhorn sat out the entire 2019 season.

However, Foreman returned to the NFL in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans. In his two years with the Titans, the veteran running back averaged 4.3 yards per rushing attempt in 15 games. Last year he signed a one-year contract with the Panthers.

Will The Panthers Re-Sign D'Onta Foreman?

When Foreman signed with the Panthers, the expectation was for him to be a change-of-pace running back behind Christian McCaffrey. However, Carolina traded away the superstar running back to the San Francisco 49ers, opening the door for more work for the former Longhorn.

Foreman had 203 rushing attempts for 914 yards and five touchdowns in 2022, all career highs, despite starting only nine games. Following his career year, Foreman will draw interest on the open market.

Carolina could bring back the veteran running back. He had five games with over 110 rushing yards this season. However, he struggled outside of those performances.

Who Could The Panthers Target To Replace Foreman?

If the Panthers don’t re-sign Foreman, they could go in several directions at the running back position. Chuba Hubbard was a fourth-round pick in 2021. After a rocky rookie season, the former Oklahoma State star bounced back in 2022. He averaged a career-high 4.9 yards per rushing attempt after averaging only 3.6 yards per rushing attempt as a rookie.

Despite his career year, Carolina shouldn’t count on Hubbard as the lead back next season. Instead, they could use their first-round pick on a running back.

Texas’ Bijan Robinson is one of the best prospects in the draft this year and a first-round lock. The only question is how high he gets drafted.

Carolina has the ninth overall pick in the draft this year. If Robinson is on the board when the team is on the clock, the Panthers must consider the superstar running back. Furthermore, many NFL scouts believe Robinson is the best running back prospect since Saquon Barkley in 2018.
