Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan is coming off a disappointing season after being traded from the Atlanta Falcons and his future in NFL is uncertain. The 37-year-old is a prime candidate to retire this offseason, but even if he doesn't, there could be very little interest in the veteran's services for 2023.
The former MVP will have decisions to make this offseason and his future could go in a ton of different directions.
How did Ryan perform in 2022 and will he retire ahead of the 2023 season? Let's dive in.

Matt Ryan 2022 Season Review
In 12 starts, Ryan completed 309 of his 461 passing attempts (67%) for 3,057 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. In addition to his interception woes, he was second in the league with 15 fumbles, despite playing in just 12 games. He was benched for Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles during the season and went just 4-7-1 in his starts.
It was hands down the worst season of his career and the Colts, who were favored to win the AFC South in the preseason, didn't come close to expectations with him as signal-caller.
The Colts hold a top-five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and after several failed trades for veteran quarterbacks, they're expected to select a rookie quarterback. Alabama's Bryce Young, Ohio State's CJ Stroud, or Kentucky's Will Levis will likely take Ryan's spot in 2023.
Will Matt Ryan Retire this Offseason?
Ryan mentioned that he is open to returning for the 2023 campaign. The 37-year-old is due $12 million next season, but the Colts can save that money by cutting him before March 17th. Ryan has said there is still good football left in him, but his 2022 season paints a different picture.
Ultimately, it's highly unlikely Ryan will be in Indianapolis next year, but another team could be interested in him as a bridge starting quarterback, or a mentor to a young player if he's willing to be that. Either way, it seems like his days of being a prolific passer are over.
