Tennessee Titans tight end Austin Hooper has had a solid NFL career. In his seven years in the league, the former Stanford star has totaled 339 receptions on 468 targets for 3,468 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
Hooper started his career with the Atlanta Falcons. After the team used a third-round pick on the tight end, he had at least three touchdowns every year with Atlanta. Following his career year in 2019, Hooper signed a massive deal with the Cleveland Browns.
However, the tight end failed to live up to that contract. Hooper had 84 receptions on 131 targets for 780 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 29 career games with the Browns. After two years with the team, Cleveland released the veteran tight end last offseason.

Is Austin Hooper A Free Agent In 2023?
After his release from Cleveland, the former Stanford star quickly signed a one-year deal with the Titans.
Hooper was solid this year, totaling 41 receptions for 444 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 17 games. The 444 receiving yards were the most he has had in a season since leaving the Falcons in 2019.
While the veteran played well this year, the Titans are unlikely to offer Hooper a new contract in March. The team spent a fourth-round pick on Chigoziem Okonkwo in last year’s draft. He had an impressive rookie season, totaling 32 receptions on 46 targets for 450 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Okonkwo will be the starting tight end next year, making Hooper expendable.
Which Team Will Sign Austin Hooper This Offseason?
This year’s free agent tight end class is a solid bunch. Therefore, Hooper might not find a new home right away. However, the veteran tight end would be a welcomed addition for many teams.
One potential landing spot is the Washington Commanders. The team reportedly could move from Logan Thomas this offseason, creating a hole at the tight end position.
Another potential landing spot is the Cincinnati Bengals. Hayden Hurst had a solid 2022 season with the team, totaling 52 receptions on 68 targets for 414 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, the Bengals need to save their salary cap space for a Tee Higgins extension.
If Hurst finds a better offer on the open market, the Bengals could turn to Hooper to fill that starting role.
