Sam Howell Likely QB1 For Commanders Heading Into Next Season
2 years agoWashington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera stated on Wednesday that the team will go into OTAs, minicamp, and training camp with Sam Howell "more than likely" operating as its QB1. Rivera expressed confidence in the 22-year-old, saying that he could be the starting quarterback come Week 1 of next season should he show the things the organization believes he is capable of. Howell spent much of this past season on the bench as veterans Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke played ahead of him, but the rookie scored twice while leading the Commanders to victory in his debut in Week 18. A threat on the ground and through the air, Howell could be considered a low-end fantasy QB2 with upside if named the starter.
