The 2022 NFL Draft class had only one first-round quarterback, as Kenny Pickett was selected 20th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After Pickett got drafted, we didn’t see another quarterback get picked until the Atlanta Falcons used the 74th overall pick on Desmond Ridder.
It wasn’t until the fourth round that we finally saw five quarterbacks get drafted. By comparison, five quarterbacks were selected in the first 15 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, including three straight to start the draft.
This year many draft experts believe there will be four first-round quarterbacks: Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson. After those four, there are a few appealing mid-round options. One of those quarterbacks is Stanford’s Tanner McKee.

What Did Tanner McKee Do In His College Career?
McKee doesn’t have eye-popping stats like the top four quarterbacks in the draft class. The Stanford quarterback had only seven pass attempts as a freshman. Over the past two years, McKee started 22 games, throwing for 5,274 yards and 28 touchdowns. Furthermore, he had 15 interceptions during that span.
Despite the lack of eye-popping numbers, McKee was productive over the final two years of his career. The quarterback completed over 65% of his pass attempts. Furthermore, he showed a massive arm and the ability to accurately push the ball downfield.
Which Team Could Pick Tanner McKee In The 2023 NFL Draft?
While teams like the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and others will likely pursue first-round quarterbacks, several teams could draft McKee in the middle rounds.
Teams with an established older quarterback could draft the Stanford quarterback. These teams include the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, and Denver Broncos. All five of these teams have an established older quarterback on the roster and could draft McKee as a developmental starter.
While he needs some time to develop, some believe the Stanford quarterback is the sleeper of the draft. He is accurate and can quickly make decisions post-snap.
In redraft leagues, McKee won’t have any fantasy value in 2023. However, the Stanford quarterback is a solid mid-round selection in dynasty rookie drafts depending on where he gets picked.
