Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher had plenty of ups and down during the 2022 NFL season, but he ultimately made it through the year and remained the Cowboys placekicker for the NFC Divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Maher became a viral sensation for the wrong reasons in the team's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card win. Maher missed four of his five extra point attempts, but it ultimately didn't matter as Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense scored at will in Tom Brady's final game in the NFL. However, he missed another extra point in the loss to the 49ers and is on the chopping block.
Will Maher be the Cowboys starting kicker next season? Let's dive into it.

Brett Maher 2022 Season Review
During the regular season, Maher made 29-of-32 field goal attempts (90.6 percent) and 50 of his 53 extra point attempts (94.3 percent). He was the No. 4 overall kicker in fantasy football and his job seemed safe. That is until the playoffs came around.
As mentioned, Maher made just one of six extra point attempts in the postseason, but he did net both of his field goal tries. While his regular season was nothing to be ashamed of, the postseason is when it matters, and his confidence is clearly shot. That said, there's a real chance he could lose his job ahead of the 2023 season.
Is Brett Maher the Cowboys Starting Kicker in 2023?
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said earlier this week that the team will be starting over at kicker in 2023, meaning they will move on from kicker Maher. The 33-year-old will become a free agent next month, but the Cowboys won't be re-signing him after he famously missed six of his final seven extra-point attempts in the team's final three games.
Whoever kicks for Dallas should enter the fantasy radar next season, as they have had a top-five offense each of the past two seasons. Maher could enter the fantasy radar if another team picks him up, but after a disastrous stretch of kicking, that's far from a guarantee.
