The San Francisco 49ers ended the 2022 season with a 13-4 record and won the NFC West division title for the first time since 2019. However, the season got off to a rocky start.
San Francisco lost two of their first three games to non-playoff teams. The team was 3-3 before trading for superstar running back Christian McCaffrey. Following their Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers won 10 straight games to end the regular season.
After winning their first two playoff matchup by a combined score of 60-35. San Francisco faced the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson suffered injuries in the game, limiting the team’s offense. Despite their best efforts, the 49ers lost 31-7.

What Draft Picks Do The San Francisco 49ers Own?
Following their loss to the Eagles, the 49ers will have the 29th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the pick doesn’t belong to them. The team traded the pick to the Miami Dolphins a few years ago as part of the Trey Lance deal.
Miami then sent the pick to the Denver Broncos at the trade deadline for Bradley Chubb. Earlier today, the Broncos traded the pick to the New Orleans Saints in a deal for Sean Payton.
The 49ers have limited draft capital after trading away three picks in the 2023 NFL Draft and a fifth-round in the 2024 NFL Draft for McCaffrey. While the team doesn’t have their own first, second, third, or fourth-round pick this year, they do have multiple compensatory third-round selections.
Who Could The San Francisco 49ers Target In The 2022 NFL Draft?
While they have an excellent defense, the 49ers should draft another cornerback this year. One potential target is Stanford’s Kyu Blu Kelly.
The cornerback had 17 passes defended and two interceptions over his first two college years. More importantly, he had a solid first day of practice at the Senior Bowl.
Another potential cornerback option for the 49ers is Tre’vius Hodges-Tomlinson. The TCU cornerback is the nephew of Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson. In his final college season, Hodges-Tomlinson had a career-high three interpretations and 15 passes defended.
