Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas had a disappointing 2022 season. The veteran tight end had only 39 receptions for 323 receiving yards and one touchdown in 14 games.
While he had a disappointing year, Thomas is coming off an injury-filled 2021 season. The veteran tight end suffered a hamstring strain that cost him six games. Unfortunately, he returned for only two games before a torn ACL ended his season.
The veteran tight end signed a three-year extension worth $24 million before the start of the 2021 season. Thomas had a career year in 2020 with 72 receptions on 110 targets for 670 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Will Logan Thomas Be Released By The Commanders?
Since his career year in 2020, Thomas has missed 14 games because of injury. In the 20 games he played, the veteran tight end has 57 receptions on 86 targets for 519 receiving yards and only four touchdowns while averaging only 26 yards per contest.
Washington enters the offseason with several decisions to make on offense. One of them is Thomas. If the team cuts the veteran tight end, they will open $5.2 million in cap space. Furthermore, the Commanders can open up almost $7 million in salary cap space with a post-June 1 designation.
Who Could The Commanders Add To Replace Logan Thomas?
Thomas will turn 32 years old in July. Between his age, injury history, and lack of production, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the team moves on from the veteran tight end.
With the former Virginia Tech star off the team, Washington will have John Bates, Cole Turner, and Armani Rogers on the roster at the tight end position. While those guys are an intriguing set of players, none are a starting-level tight end. Therefore, expect the Commanders to explore trade options.
At the top of the list should be Darren Waller. The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly looking to shake things up and could trade the star tight end this offseason.
If the Raiders move on from their star tight end before March 20, they will save nearly $11.4 million in cap space. Both sides could rework Waller’s contract to make a trade more possible for the Commanders.
Even if the star tight end remains in Las Vegas or gets traded elsewhere, expect Washington to move on Thomas before the start of free agency.
