New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis signed a lucrative contract with the team ahead of the 2021 season after a career-best 984-yard campaign in 2020 with the Tennessee Titans. Davis agreed to a three-year $37.5 million deal to presumably be the Jets' No. 1 wide receiver.
However, after two seasons, his time with the team could be coming to an end. Elijah Moore showed plenty of promise in his 2021 rookie season and Garrett Wilson was an all-out stud in 2022 as an offensive rookie of the year finalist. Davis carries the highest wide receiver salary, despite being arguably the third-best receiver on the team.

Corey Davis 2022 Season Review
In 13 games, Davis caught 32 of his 64 targets for 536 yards and two touchdowns. The Jets' quarterback situation was less than ideal with Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, and Mike White all taking turns running the offense, but it was an underwhelming season. Last season, he played in just nine games, catching 34 passes for 492 yards and four touchdowns.
Ultimately, it wasn't a terrible season given his situation, but he's been a preplacement-level wide receiver since joining Gang Green.
Will Corey Davis Be Released By The Jets?
Although Davis hasn't necessarily been "bad", he could be a cap causality this offseason. The Jets have an out on his contract this offseason as they will only take a dead cap hit of $666,667 and cutting him would free up $10.5 million.
With the emergence of Wilson and the hope for a resurgence from Moore, Davis is expendable to the team at this point. If New York wants to trade for Derek Carr or Aaron Rodgers, they'll need to free up cap space, and Davis is the easy causality to make that happen. Right now, it seems the release of Davis is almost inevitable.
Fantasy managers and NFL fans shouldn't write Davis off quite yet though, as a more attractive landing spot could benefit his fantasy value and career arch. He's unquestionably a good enough player to be on a roster and is a formidable pass-catching option, so where he may end up is a situation worth monitoring.
