Patrick Mahomes Injury Update
Every fan of the Kansas City Chiefs held their breath in last week's Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars when he took a low hit to his ankle and he was hobbling for the rest of the game. Even though Mahomes was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, he continues to practice without many limitations and is slated to start in Sunday's pivotal contest versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
After missing a couple of series on offense in last week's 27-20 victory against the Jaguars, Mahomes would return in the second half and finish the game. Mahomes was noticeably less mobile than usual and the Chiefs didn't need him to make many out-of-script plays.
While ankle sprains typically take weeks to heal, Andy Reid iterated that the All-Pro quarterback has done well in treatment this week and he looks good to go for Sunday's matchup with the Bengals. The only concerns for Mahomes are the risk of worsening his injury or the inability to be as effective at creating the usual plays he makes with his legs.
The Chiefs will likely manufacture a game plan that allows Mahomes to get the ball out quickly for the majority of the game to avoid him taking hits. Taking that into account, Travis Kelce is a fantastic play at the tight end position in DFS and Jerick McKinnon could see more passing-game work out of the backfield.
