In their first year in New York, the duo led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and their first playoff appearance since 2016. Furthermore, Daniel Jones had a career year in 2022.

The former first-round pick completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 3,205 yards this season, both career-highs. Meanwhile, his five interceptions were a career low. More importantly, Jones had seven rushing touchdowns this year, more than doubling his career total ending the season.

When Schoen and Daboll joined the Giants a year ago, they had a critical decision to make. Jones struggled over the first three years of his career, and the team had to decide on the quarterback’s fifth-year option. New York declined the option, and Jones had a career year. The former Duke star will hit the open market in March.

The veteran quarterback joins Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, and Julian Love as critical upcoming free agents for the Giants. While the franchise tag is an option, New York would like to avoid that solution if possible.

Which Team Will Sign Jones This Offseason?

New York wants Jones back for next season and for years to come. The quarterback and the team will work out a contract, whether it’s a long-term deal or the franchise tag.

The Giants are the current favorites to have Jones under center next season at +105, followed by the Baltimore Ravens (+500) and Las Vegas Raiders (+650).

Two potential dark horse teams are the Indianapolis Colts (+1000) and the Washington Commanders (+1200). Jones would give the Colts a somewhat proven quarterback who is still young enough to be their franchise guy for the next several years.

Meanwhile, the Commanders liked Jones during the pre-draft process in 2019. New York took Jones with the sixth overall pick, while Washington selected Dwayne Haskins nine picks later. Sam Howell is the only quarterback guaranteed to be on the roster next season, and the team could look for an upgrade on the open market.
