Tony Pollard Could Be Issued Franchise Tag
2 years agoDallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard could receive the franchise tag this offseason, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The team wants to keep the 25-year-old on its roster and sees the franchise tag as "an option" if the two sides don't agree to an extension. Pollard looked great while complementing Ezekiel Elliott this season as he totaled 1,007 rushing yards, 371 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. For fantasy purposes, Pollard finished as the overall RB8. Keeping Pollard could force the Cowboys to make a big decision on Ezekiel Elliott, who has a cap number of $16.72 million in 2023. Notably, cutting Elliott after June 1st would create $10.9 million in cap space while incurring just $5.82 million in dead money. Pollard heads into 2023 fantasy drafts as a mid-range RB2, and he would jump to the RB1 tier if he has the backfield all to himself.
