As everybody knows by now, Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher went 1-for-5 on extra point attempts in Monday’s Wild Card win over Tampa Bay.
Maher shanked his first four extra point attempts in the win, finally converting on his fifth try.
Jerry Jones brought in kicker Tristan Vizcaino, who has floated around the league since 2019 and has appeared in eight games over the course of his career. The biggest story in Dallas this week will revolve around who starts this Sunday. Will it be Maher, or will Vizcaino get the kicking action?

How Has Brett Maher Performed in 2022?
Maher’s extra point woes actually started in Week 18 against Washington where he went 0-for-1. On the season, he went 50-for-53 on extra points and 29-for-32 on field goals.
Maher had a very productive season for Dallas that is unfortunately being overshadowed by his all-time bad performance in the national spotlight on Monday night.
He quickly approached meme status and had the whole world talking about him with his job in limbo.
While quarterback Dak Prescott was visibly upset with Maher’s struggles, it was cool to see receiver CeeDee Lamb attempt to lift him up on the sideline after one of his four misses.
How Has Tristan Vizcaino Performed in 2022?
Tristan Vizcaino has made three appearances in 2022, playing for the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots.
Vizcaino was perfect on the season, going 3-for-3 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals with a long of 46 yards in a game that veteran Matt Prater missed for Arizona. He did not attempt a kick in either of the two Patriots games that he played in.
Vizcaino opened the 2021 season as the kicker for the Los Angeles Chargers, but only lasted six weeks due to extra point struggles of his own. He went 10-for-15 on extra point attempts through the first six weeks of the 2021 season, ultimately costing him his job.
Who Will Kick for Dallas on Sunday?
The two kickers have been going at it in practice this week, both hoping to earn the start in Sunday’s Divisional Round game in San Francisco.
Maher has looked like the better option so far despite his struggles last week.
Jerry Jones stated that the team would stick with Brett Maher as their kicker, but then abruptly brought in Vizcaino.
The addition of Vizcaino to the practice squad was likely to make Maher feel pressure and to let him know that his job is not safe. Despite Vizcaino being added, it is likely that we will see Brett Maher again on Sunday for Dallas.
Vizcaino doesn’t have the best track record as a kicker either, and Maher will likely get a chance at redemption against San Francisco.
