Frankie Montas To Miss First Month Of Season
2 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Frankie Montas (shoulder) is expected to miss the first month of the regular season in 2023 due to shoulder inflammation that he dealt with at the end of 2022, according to sources. Montas is eight to 10 weeks behind in his offseason training. The 29-year-old missed two weeks with the Oakland Athletics last year and then landed on the injured list on Sept. 20 with the Yankees after eight lackluster outings in pinstripes. The Yanks sent left-handers JP Sears and Ken Waldichuk, along with two minor-leaguers, to acquire Montas and reliever Lou Trivino from the A's at last year's trade deadline. Montas had a 6.35 ERA in 39 2/3 innings in his eight starts for New York in 2022, but they're hoping he'll be an important part of their rotation in 2023 once he returns from his shoulder issues.
