Rockies Avoid Arbitration With Austin Gomber
2 years agoThe Colorado Rockies avoided salary arbitration with left-hander Austin Gomber on Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.65 million deal, according to sources familiar with the deal. Gomber was a key piece in the blockbuster trade that sent third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old southpaw appeared in a career-high 33 games (17 starts) in his second season in Colorado in 2022 and went 5-7 with a career-high 5.56 ERA (4.54 FIP), 1.37 WHIP and career-low 18.0% strikeout rate in 124 1/3 innings pitched. Depending on how he fares in spring training, Gomber could be a candidate to start the regular season in Colorado's starting rotation, but he'd be a pretty shaky streamer in deep leagues.
