ANALYSIS: More than 20 starts in a row, let's go!!! Killian Hayes and the Detroit Pistons have shaken hands once and for all and giving the French point guard a long leash is finally paying off. Just in the last six games alone, Hayes has averaged a nightly 13-4-5-1 line through 10 days of play, ending with Friday's night 17-point, five-board, five-dime, and two-steal outing against Atlanta.
The Pistons have finally (it looks like) pivoted toward full-tank mode, aiming at landing Wemby. In other words, Hayes is going to keep starting games daily with Cade Cunningham done for the year and no other youngsters available at the point other than Jaden Ivey--who is more of a combo/two-guard anyway.
Since he became a starter back on Nov. 12, Hayes is averaging 28+ FPPG. He's hit 30+ in 10 of those games and, in fact, when he did so, he actually averaged 38+ FPPG. Three of those saucy, tasty, spicy games have come in the last 10 days with the most extraordinary of matches taking place against Charlotte (25 points, five treys, seven boards, and eight assists) on Dec. 14.
The shooting seemed to be fixed by the end of November/start of December but that has not quite been the case as Hayes has had a little bit of everything on that front. At least he's hoisting nearly 12 FGA per game this month and hitting shots at a palatable 43% clip from the field in that stretch.
