Pyotr Kochetkov Blanks Detroit With 27 Saves
2 years agoCarolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov neutralized the Red Wings on Tuesday with 27 saves in a 1-0 win. On his way to his second consecutive shutout, Kochetkov was busiest in the second period when Detroit fired 14 pucks at him. The Russian youngster is now tied for the league lead with three shutouts. The Hurricanes looked to have been in quite a bit of trouble when Frederik Andersen (lower body) went down with an injury, but Kochetkov has done an amazing job in his absence, posting a 7-1-4 record for the campaign with a 2.02 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. Andersen's return isn't far away anymore and it will be a blow for Kochetkov's fantasy stock, but he has done more than enough to continue getting action. It would be smart for Carolina to use him in every road game, as Kochetkov hasn't yet dropped a single away outing in regulation, going 6-0-4.
