Veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield has had a wild past eight months. The Cleveland Browns traded for Deshaun Watson in March. After months of waiting, the Carolina Panthers traded for Mayfield in July.
The former Oklahoma Sooner began the year as the Panthers’ starting quarterback. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 and started only one more game the rest of the year for Carolina.
On Monday, the Panthers granted the quarterback’s request and waived him. With Sam Darnold listed as the starter and PJ Walker as the backup, Mayfield would have likely not seen the field the rest of the season.

Should I Add Baker Mayfield?
The San Francisco 49ers were considered the top landing spot for Mayfield. Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a foot injury on Sunday. Unfortunately, he will reportedly miss several weeks, knocking him out until the playoffs.
Instead, the Los Angeles Rams claimed Mayfield earlier today. With Matthew Stafford likely out for the rest of the season and John Wolford battling a neck injury, Mayfield could be on the game-day roster Thursday night against the Las Vegas Raiders.
However, the former first-overall pick is unlikely to start even if Wolford doesn't play. Bryce Perkins has played four straight games and started against the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago. More importantly, the newly acquired quarterback hasn’t played well this year.
Mayfield is the QB33 for the year, averaging only 10.5 fantasy points per game. With Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson out for the season, he will have a poor supporting cast if he ever takes the field. Fantasy players shouldn't add Mayfield to their roster.
What Quarterback Should I Add Off The Waiver Wire?
Instead of picking up the former Oklahoma star, fantasy players should add Jared Goff. The Detroit Lions quarterback is available in over 70% of ESPN leagues.
Last week he had 340 passing yards, two touchdowns, and scored 21.6 fantasy points in the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 340 passing yards and 21.6 fantasy points were his highest marks since Week 4. Meanwhile, his matchup this week is fantasy-friendly.
The Minnesota Vikings have surrendered 18.9 fantasy points per game this season, the eighth-most in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up 300 or more passing yards in six of the past seven contests, including four straight. Unless something happens to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Goff has top-five upside in Week 14.
