49ers Officially Sign Josh Johnson
2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers officially signed free-agent quarterback Josh Johnson on Tuesday to an undisclosed one-year deal. The move comes after starting signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) suffered a serious Lisfranc foot injury in the Week 13 win over the Miami Dolphins. It was initially believed that Jimmy G would be lost for the season, but he will avoid surgery and could be available if the Niners make a deep playoff run. Johnson was signed off the Denver Broncos' practice squad, and it's his fourth stint with San Francisco. Rookie seventh-rounder Brock Purdy will take over the offense with Garoppolo hurt, but if something happens to Purdy as well, Johnson would be forced to make just the 10th NFL start of his career.
