ANALYSIS: I have a very serious idea I'd like to pitch to NBA commish Adam Silver. Considering most years there is a clear-cut Rookie of the Year winner, what about creating a Runner-up Silver Rookie award (no pun intended)? I haven't checked past seasons, but I know for a fact this campaign would already have the two names engraved on those trophies.
Banchero is cool and all, but his game is hardly surprising. Bennedict Mathurin's off-the-pine play, though, has been a pleasing thing to enjoy taking place in the cornfields of Indianapolis nightly.
Mathurin, as much as he's a rookie, is putting up averages on par with some NBA behemoths. Just peep:
- One of 61 players hitting 18+ PPG this season.
- Only one doing it from the bench in every single game he's played. Devin Vassell has the lowest start rate already at 89 percent (16-of-18 games).
- One of 11 players hitting 40% of his treys while attempting at least 5.5 per game.
- Only player averaging 18 PPG, 4 RPG, and 1.5 APG in fewer than 32 MPG.
We can spend the day here, but you know what I'm saying.
Just twice in 22 games has Mathurin failed to score double-digit points (he still dropped 8 and 9) and in 11 times has he entered the 20-point realm. Of those, two saw Mathurin dump 30+ on his opponents (the Nets and Nuggets, no least).
Don't hesitate, rush to your WW, and hit that Add button before it's too late no matter the type of league and format you're managing in.
