NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 11/19/22
On this 13-game slate, there are going to be so many intriguing places to go. My best advice is you cannot cover all of your bases, so take a stand, be smart, and hope the variance is with you!

As always, ensure the goalie in your lineup is confirmed before the lineup lock! With several teams on a back-to-back, it is a safe assumption to go with the goalie that did not start the previous night. Everyone else you have to double-check! There is nothing worse than having a great lineup but taking a zero at goalie. This has happened to me before and it stinks!
NHL DFS Goalies
Jake Allen DK $8.0K || FD $7.5K
Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers
On big slates, I don't want to pay too much for a goalie. DraftKings pricing is tighter while with FanDuel it is more spread out where you can find some values. Goalie is a high-variance position and I want someone in a good spot, but don't want to go too crazy. Jake Allen and the Canadiens are at home against Philadelphia. They are favorites as well. Allen is 5-6-0 with a 3.29 GAA and a .901 SV%, which is not great, but Montreal allows a lot of shots on goal, so there are opportunities for saves here and of course the win.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Swayman (DK $8.3K || FD $8.8K), Binnington (DK $8.3K || FD $7.4K)
NHL DFS Centers
Auston Matthews -DK $9.2K || FD $9.8K
Opponent - Buffalo Sabres
If I am going to spend up for Auston Matthews, he is my top pick. Toronto is implied for 4.2 goals. For the Sabres, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is going to be the likely starter for Buffalo. Luukkonen is coming up from the AHL where he had a .898 SV% there. Matthews has 19 points in 18 games played, while averaging 4.44 shots on goal per game.
Robert Thomas -DK $4.1K || FD $5.5K
Opponent - Anaheim Ducks
Robert Thomas is a cash game staple for me. He does not have a lot of upside, but he often scores a point when the Blues are playing bad opponents and this is a... bad opponent. Thomas has 12 points in 16 games played. Anaheim leads the league with 38.35 shots allowed per game and I like this Blues top line overall as they are correlated with the power play. If playing Thomas, make sure to pair with one of his wingers in a cash game, because the point Thomas scores is more likely to be an assist than a goal.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): MacKinnon (DK $9.6K || FD $10.3K - GPP), Larkin (DK $6.9K || FD $8.3K)
NHL DFS Wings
David Pastrnak- DK $9.3K || FD $10.1K
Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks
Boston should score a ton of goals against Chicago tonight. Pastrnak is a shot-taking machine with 86 shots on goal in 17 games or 5.06 shots on goal per game. On top of that, he has 9 goals and 17 assists in those 17 games played too. I don't mind pairing him with a linemate but Boston is so expensive and Pasta takes so many shots he can be played as a one-off if you can afford him.
Vladimir Tarasenko- DK $6.0K || FD $6.3K
Opponent - Anaheim Ducks
Above, I said to pair Robert Thomas with a linemate. My first choice would be Vladimir Tarasenko. While he has just 13 points in 16 games, he is averaging 2.75 shots on goal per game as well. If looking to save even more, Pavel Buchnevich ($4.4K DK || $4.9K FD) would be alright too as he has had a couple of big games recently.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Meier (DK $7.8K || FD $8.2K), Connor (DK $6.6K || FD $7.1K), Perron (DK $4.8K || FD $6.3K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
John Carlson- DK $7.1K || FD $7.6K
Opponent - Washington Capitals
Two nights ago, I touted Carlson and he had two goals, three blocked shots, and five shots on goal. Tonight I tout him again. He is shooting the puck at 3.46 shots per game, and he now has 11 points in 13 games played. The Avalanche are a good team but are not great defensively and have one of the worst penalty kills in the league. The Capitals could score 3-4 goals tonight and Carlson could be involved with more than one of them.
Nate Schmidt - DK $3.2K || FD $3.7K
Opponent - Pittsburgh Penguins
Nate Schmidt is sub $4K and on the second power-play unit. Enough said. All kidding aside, he has not done much scoring and has been blocked shot bonus-dependent. Still, in a GPP if looking for a punt, there is point-scoring upside here as long as he skates on the power play.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Faulk (DK $6.2K || FD $7.0K), Giordano (DK $3.4K || Not on FanDuel)
NHL DFS Top Stacks
Here is a handful of stacks I like:
- TOR1: The Leafs are facing an AHL goalie tonight that had a .898 SV% there.
- BOS1: I wrote this last time and I'll repeat it against as they face Chicago: I try to roster David Pastrnak as much as I can. Now that he is skating with the top line, that's the stack I want. They are very expensive and might be difficult to fit all three. Going with Bergeron-Pastrnak is a good alternative. They have the same implied total as Toronto but are much more expensive.
- STL1/PP1: Anaheim allows the most shots on goal per game and this line is fully correlated to the Power Play.
- DET2: Detroit 1 has been more productive but Copp-Bertuzzi-Raymond makes for a nice filler stack.
- DAL1: Dallas at home is a vibe. I may be biased because this stack has won me the most money this year. At the same time, Robertson-Pavelski-Hintz has scored 18 goals together -- the most of any forward combination in the league.
