ANALYSIS: Singing Malik Monk at a reasonable price has definitely turned into a great deal for Sacramento. Acquiring Kevin Huerter in a trade with Atlanta in exchange for only a lottery-protected first-round pick, though, can now be considered an outright steal pulled off by the Kings.
Huerter has started every single game for Sacto this season usurping Monk from the role he signed on for when he inked his deal with the Kings. And it makes all of the sense. If you are not paying attention you might think of Huerter as a specialist--your casual 3-point shooter with little upside elsewhere--and you'd be totally wrong.
Huerter is logging 32 MPG as the starting shooting guard of the Kings next to De'Aaron Fox, and although the dimes are obviously not on Fox's levels Huerter is still getting 3+ APG--the third-most among Kings players behind Fox and Domantas Sabonis. These three are also averaging 1+ SPG each.
Nothing of the above means that Huerter has forgotten how to hit long-range buckets, mind you. Huerter is scoring the most 3PM per game (3.7) among players with at least an overall 48% field-goal percentage to date. while hoisting 11+ FGA a pop. Huerter has scored 2+ triples in seven consecutive games and has only fallen from double-digit points (9) once in that span. He's scored 11, 14, and 16 in the last three games.
Huerter is an all-across-the-board, low-end contributor with massive upside on the scoring/shooting side of the stats. He's one of only 18 players averaging at least 16+ PPG, 2.5+ RPG, 3+ APG, 1+ SPG, and 0.5+ BPG, and the only one rostered in fewer than 97% of all ESPN leagues.
