Mets Don't Extend Qualifying Offer To Taijuan Walker
2 years agoThe New York Mets decided not to extend the $19.65 million qualifying offer to free-agent starting pitcher Taijuan Walker. Meanwhile, right-handers Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt and outfielder Brandon Nimmo all received the offer. Like deGrom and Bassitt, Walker opted out of his $6 million player option for the 2023 season and can now sign with any teams on the open market. The 30-year-old was much better in his second season with the Mets, going 12-5 with a 3.49 ERA (3.65 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, 132 strikeouts and 45 walks in 157 1/3 innings pitched over his 29 starts in 2022. There's a chance the Mets look to bring him back, but Walker will be looking for a lucrative multi-year deal on the open market this winter.
