Kenyon Martin Jr. is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 4 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 14% of leagues
ANALYSIS: On a team like the Houston Rockets, there are going to be plenty of experimental minutes to go around. Outside of Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr., the rest of the minutes are all up for experimental and growth purposes. With that being said, why not go for a younger forward on a team with plenty of minutes available with some scoring and rebounding upside?
Kenyon Martin Jr. is averaging 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game so far this season. Those offensive numbers even come with a 48.9% overall shooting percentage and 1.3 made threes per game. His offensive rating is hovering at 118 which is tied for the best of his career. On top of that, he's also boasting his highest usage rate in his three seasons in Houston.
While looking through his game logs, there are a few single-digit scoring efforts. Sometimes he can be quite off on his bad nights or one of the other prospects could have the hot hand. He does, however, have two 20-point games under his belt so far. One thing is for sure, when he gets his minutes he's going to make sure he also gets his shots up.
Looking at his other contribution areas, he does contribute 4.7 rebounds per game, but his assist numbers have increased from his career average, and his defensive numbers have the potential to rise back up to where they were during his rookie year. Right now he gets 0.5 blocks and steals per game respectively, but has averaged 0.9 and 0.7 before. For players that are only rostered in 14% of fantasy leagues, there isn't this much production from both sides of the ball. Especially when you see names such as Troy Brown Jr., Jonathan Kuminga, and Obi Toppin right around the same rostered percentage.
