Eric Hosmer Reportedly Not Opting Out Of Contract
2 years agoNew York Post's Jon Heyman reported Monday that Boston Red Sox first baseman Eric Hosmer will not be opting out of the remaining three years of his eight-year, $144 million contract. Hosmer is owed $39 million over the final three years of his current contract, most of which will be paid by his former team, the San Diego Padres. The 33-year-old was traded during this past season and put together his second consecutive disappointing campaign, slashing .268/.334/.382 with eight home runs and 44 RBI in 419 plate appearances. As such, it is not surprising that he will continue with his current contract. Hosmer's decreased power production has limited his fantasy value and will continue to do so if he cannot turn things around.
