Anthony Rizzo Becomes A Free Agent
2 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo opted out of his $16 million option for the 2023 season on Monday and has become a free agent. Two of the Yankees' biggest sluggers -- Rizzo and Aaron Judge -- will be free agents this winter. The 33-year-old Rizzo hit just .224 in his first full season in the Bronx, but he also had a .338 on-base percentage, .480 slugging percentage, an .817 OPS, a career-high-tying 32 home runs, 75 RBI, 77 runs scored and six stolen bases in 548 plate appearances over 130 games. The short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium really suits the left-handed slugger, but he'll look for a bigger payday on the open market after having a very strong all-around year. He went 8-for-29 (.276) with two homers, eight RBI, four runs, five walks and eight strikeouts in nine playoff games.
