Braves Acquire Sam Hilliard From The Rockies
2 years agoThe Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Sam Hilliard from the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Dylan Spain. Hilliard played in 70 games for the Rockies this year in his fourth major-league season, but he did very little with the bat, slashing .184/.280/.264 with two home runs, 14 RBI, 26 runs scored and five stolen bases in 200 plate appearances. In a career-high 81 games for Colorado in 2021, Hilliard hit .215 with a career-high 14 long balls and 34 RBI. The 28-year-old spent the last month of the season in the minors and won't be a lock to make Atlanta's big-league roster out of spring training. Spain, 24, had a 5.30 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 60:13 K:BB in 56 innings over 36 outings (seven starts) for High-A Rome in 2022.
