2 years agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Jonathan Schoop has an opt-out clause in his contract, but he intends to return to the team for the final year of his deal in 2023. If Schoop chose to opt out, he would be leaving $7.5 million on the table next year after signing a two-year, $15 million extension with Detroit in August of 2021. It makes even more sense after the 31-year-old veteran hit just .202/.239/.322 with 11 home runs, 38 RBI, 48 runs scored and five stolen bases in 481 at-bats for the Tigers in 2022. Because of his poor season, Schoop won't be guaranteed regular playing time heading into the 2023 season, and he'll need to play well in spring training.
