Sam Ehlinger's Mobility Could Make The Difference
2 years agoThe Indianapolis Colts have chosen to bench 37-year-old quarterback Matt Ryan in favor of second-year QB Sam Ehlinger, who has never attempted an NFL pass. "We think Sam Ehlinger has a really bright future," general manager Chris Ballard said back in August. Ehlinger will be the team's sixth starter since Andrew Luck retired abruptly in 2019. The 24-year-old will have his growing pains no doubt, but he has more upside than Ryan, and his scrambling ability could be a spark for this struggling Colts offense. But Ehlinger could struggle initially, starting in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders, behind an offensive line that has become one of the worst in the league. Ryan has taken 80 hits (most in the league) and 110 pressures.
