NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 10/19/22
While it is just a three-game slate, Colorado, Florida, and St. Louis are in action. Those are the three favorites on the slate, each implied between 3.6 and 4.2 goals.

As always, make sure the goalie in your lineup is confirmed before the lineup lock! There is nothing worse than having a great lineup but taking a zero at goalie. This has happened to me before and it stinks!
NHL DFS Goalies
Jordan Binnington DK $7.8K || FD $7.9K
Opponent - Seattle Kraken
St. Louis has only played one game so far this season. Binnington was good with a .920 SV% and picked up the win for his team. Seattle is 19th in shots per game. The Kraken are also 10th in expected goals per game but are tied for 23rd in actual goals per game. This is an inefficient offense, one that St. Louis can keep in check. Binnington is the least expensive of the expected starters, and with St. Louis favored, he looks to be a solid cash game play.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Georgiev (DK $8.0K || FD $8.2K), Hellebuyck (DK $7.4K || FD $7.6K - GPP only)
NHL DFS Centers
Nathan MacKinnon -DK $8.1K || FD $10.0K
Opponent - Winnipeg Jets
In cash games, it is better to pay up for Center than to pay down most of the time. MacKinnon is off to a great start with two goals and five assists in three games played. He is also averaging 5.33 shots on goal per game. Hellebuyck is a good goalie. That said, the Avalanche are at home, implied for four goals, and it is likely MacKinnon either scores a point or shoots a handful of shots on goal. He is averaging 25.0 DK points and 30.2 FD points so far this season.
Robert Thomas- DK $4.8K || FD $6.5K
Opponent - Seattle Kraken
Robert Thomas is not a high-volume shooter, but given he skates on the top line and the top power play, he has a great chance to score a point every time he steps onto the ice. At his price, especially on DraftKings, scoring a point and taking a couple of shots or blocking a couple of shots gets him to make or exceed the value in a cash game.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Barkov (DK $7.5K || FD $9.0K), Hayes (DK $5.2K || FD $5.1K)
NHL DFS Wings
Vladimir Tarasenko- DK $7.3K || FD $7.5K
Opponent - Seattle Kraken
Vladimir Tarasenko is off to a great start this season with two goals on four shots on goal to start the season. But we aren't chasing points here. He makes for a good correlation play with Robert Thomas as he skates with Thomas on the top line and top power play. In 2021-22, he averaged 3.06 shots on goal per game. It is always favorable to play wingers that take a lot of shots on goal.
Matthew Tkachuk- DK $7.4K || FD $8.8K
Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers
Matthew Tkachuk has two goals, two assists, and 14 shots on goal in three games played so far this year. Now, the Panthers will play at home against the Philadelphia Flyers, who are coming in at 3-0 but on the second game of a back-to-back. The Panthers have the highest implied total on the slate with good reason and Tkachuk is in a great spot here.
I like him as a one-off but if you want to correlate, then I would play him with Sam Bennett, who is the center of that line and also skates with Tkachuk on power plays.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Lehkonen (DK $5.2K || FD $5.0K), Konecny (DK $5.4K || FD $6.5K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Gustav Forsling- DK $4.6K || FD $4.8K
Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers
If Aaron Ekblad is out, Forsling could slot into the top power play, making him a great value for this slate. Forsling has one goal and two assists so far in three games. He is also averaging 1.33 blocked shots per game and 3.33 shots on goal per game. If Ekblad is in, Forsling still makes for a solid value play but not as strong as if he were out.
Torey Krug- DK $4.9K || FD $5.9K
Opponent - Seattle Kraken
Torey Krug is on that first power play with Robert Thomas and Vladimir Tarasenko, which is great. Krug had one assist and one shot on goal in his first game of the season. He had 20 minutes on the ice, which is also a great sign as he was injured during the playoffs last year.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Makar (DK $7.4K || FD $7.9K), Provorov (DK $5.9K || FD $5.9K)
NHL DFS Top Stacks
- Florida PP1: There are different ways to do this. Florida has the highest implied total and is taking on a team playing in a back-to-back.
- Colorado 1: Winnipeg is allowing a lot of shots per game and this offense can put the puck in the net.
- St. Louis 1: Arizona is so bad and Pittsburgh is at home. Arizona was one of the worst penalty-killing teams last year.
- Florida 3: If playing in a large GPP, you may need a filler stack beyond any of the top-six skaters as this is a small slate. Florida 3 is arguably the best third line on this slate as they already have three goals scored together.
