Terry Francona Says Aaron Civale Will Start Tuesday
2 years agoCleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona said Monday afternoon that starting pitcher Aaron Civale would start against the Yankees in the American League Division Series Game 5 even if it were pushed back a day, per the Athletic's Zack Meisel. This will be the case, as Monday's scheduled game was postponed due to rain. The 27-year-old put together a lackluster 4.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 20 starts this season and would be opposed by Nestor Cortes if he were to pitch Tuesday. The postponement does open the potential for the Guardians to start Shane Bieber, who had a stellar 2.88 ERA through 31 regular-season starts and has a 2.03 ERA through two 2022 post-season starts. It remains to be seen if Francona will stick to his word, but it does look like Bieber would give the Guardians the best shot of advancing to the American League Championship Series.
