Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon has taken over as the starter with Javonte Williams out for the season with a torn ACL.
After the second-year running suffered the knee injury in Week 4, Gordon took over in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. The veteran had 15 rushing attempts for 54 rushing yards and three receptions for 49 receiving yards in the overtime loss.
However, should fantasy players start Gordon in Week 6? That will depend on his health.

Is Melvin Gordon Playing This Week?
The former first-round pick has missed time in practice this week with neck and rib injuries. Gordon did partake in practice on Thursday and Friday in a limited fashion. However, he is listed as questionable for Monday night’s matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Not only did Gordon miss practice time this week because of injuries, but his backup, Mike Boone, also missed time with a foot injury. However, the former Cincinnati Bearcat was a full participant in practice on Friday and is off the injury report.
Should I Start Melvin Gordon In Week 6?
While he has dealt with the injuries, no reports have suggested Gordon won’t play Monday night. If the veteran running back is active for the Broncos, he belongs in fantasy lineups.
The Chargers have struggled to stop running backs this season. They have surrendered 28.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game to running backs, the most in the NFL. Furthermore, Los Angeles has given up at least 130 rushing yards to running backs in three straight games while giving up five rushing touchdowns to the position during that span.
However, fantasy players with Gordon on their roster should add Boone if possible. The backup running back played 41% of the snaps and scored 10 half-point PPR fantasy points last week against the Colts. Furthermore, Boone touched the ball on 53% of his snaps and averaged one half-point PPR fantasy point per touch in Week 5.
If Gordon is a last-minute scratch, fantasy players can slide Boone into their lineup and potentially get top-10 numbers from the backup running back.
