Abraham Almonte Designated For Assignment By Boston
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Abraham Almonte for assignment on Tuesday and claimed catcher Caleb Hamilton off waivers from the Minnesota Twins in a corresponding move. Almonte played in just 15 games for the Red Sox this year, going 9-for-35 (.257) with a homer, two RBI and seven runs scored. He slashed .291/.469/.536 with a 1.006 OPS, seven home runs, 24 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases in 32 games for Triple-A Worcester. Hamilton, 27, plays infield and outfield and made his big-league debut in 2022 with the Twins. He went 1-for-18 (.056) with a home run, five runs scored, four walks and 14 strikeouts. Hamilton was a 23rd-round pick out of Oregon State back in 2016.
