Dodgers To Use Closer Committee For Playoffs
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Monday that the team would continue to approach saves without a traditional closer for the playoffs, per MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Said Roberts, "...we'll just have different options so you don't have to run the same cast of characters to the same part of the lineup all the time." Craig Kimbrel was demoted from the closer role in late September after blowing five saves with a 3.75 ERA. Eight different Dodgers saw save opportunities in the last month of the season, but it sounds like Brusdar Graterol, Yency Almonte, and Evan Phillips could be candidates for playoff save opportunities in addition to Kimbrel. Further, Blake Treinen (shoulder) may be ready to pitch in the NLDS, although his role would be limited given how little he pitched in the regular season.
