Is Jahan Dotson Playing? Should I Start Curtis Samuel?

Curtis Samuel - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Is Jahan Dotson Playing? Should I Start Curtis Samuel?

Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy players this season. The first-round pick is the WR23 in half-point PPR scoring, averaging 11.8 fantasy points per game.

Furthermore, the rookie receiver's four receiving touchdowns tie Stefon Diggs for the league lead. Dotson has been a bright spot on an otherwise disappointing Washington offense. The former Penn State star has a 30.8% touchdown rate this year.

Unfortunately, the rookie suffered a hamstring injury last week against the Dallas Cowboys.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Is Jahan Dotson Playing?

While he won’t play this week because of the hamstring injury, Dotson could return as early as Week 6 against the Chicago Bears. However, with that game on Thursday night, the Commanders might play it safe with their rookie star and wait until the Week 7 matchup against the Green Bay Packers to put Dotson back on the field.

The timing of the injury couldn’t be more frustrating for fantasy players. Not only was the rookie leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns, but he did it despite being fourth on his team with 22 targets.

With Dotson potentially out the next two weeks, fantasy players should explore trading for the former Penn State star. His strong start to the year isn’t a fluke. The rookie receiver is a superstar in the making.

Should I Start Curtis Samuel?

However, with Dotson out this week, should fantasy players start Samuel? The former Ohio State Buckeye dealt with an illness earlier this week but is ready to go for tomorrow’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

The veteran receiver is the WR16 for the year in half-point PPR scoring, averaging 12.5 fantasy points per game. If you have Samuel on your roster, he belongs in your starting lineup, especially given the matchup this week.

Tennessee has given up an average of 13.5 receptions for 196.5 receiving yards and 1.5 touchdowns per game to wide receivers this season. Furthermore, they have surrendered 36 half-point PPR fantasy points per game to the position, the fourth-most in the NFL.

Samuel is a good start this week, but so is Terry McLaurin. The fourth-year veteran has struggled this season, averaging only 9.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. However, the matchup against the Titans is what McLaurin exactly needs to break out of his fantasy funk.
