Fantasy Football Injury Reports For NFL RBs: Week 5 Updates for Tony Pollard, Breece Hall, Alvin Kamara, David Montgomery

Tony Pollard - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Fantasy football RB injury updates and injury reports for running backs for Week 5 (2022), as of 10/8, including D'Andre Swift, Alvin Kamara, Breece Hall, Tony Pollard, and David Montgomery.

Below you will find our fantasy football injuries report for running backs in Week 5, as of October 8. The injury statuses for various NFL running backs are up in the air for Week 5 including D'Andre Swift, Alvin Kamara, Breece Hall, Tony Pollard, and David Montgomery.

The fantasy football season may be just getting underway, but every decision, transaction, and lineup change matters. These are critical running back injuries to keep track of throughout the week. Being up-to-date on NFL injury news can give you an edge over your league mates in fantasy football.

Let's look at the updates for some running backs and see whether they may play in Week 5.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

D'Andre Swift Injury Update

Swift (shoulder, ankle) has been ruled out for the second consecutive week. He'll miss Sunday's game against the Patriots, clearing the way for rushing touchdown leader Jamaal Williams to have another big game. Detroit leads the NFL in points scored and Williams should benefit from that fact once again this week. He ranks as a low-end RB1 in fantasy football. Going forward, the Lions are on bye in Week 6. Swift could return in Week 7.

Alvin Kamara Injury Update

Kamara (ribs) has missed two of four games this season, including last Sunday's contest against the Vikings. Although the veteran back is listed as questionable for Week 5, he has asserted that he expects to play. Kamara has averaged just 7.45 fantasy points per game this season so he isn't the safest fantasy option, but his upside still makes him a mid-range RB2.

Breece Hall Injury Update

Hall (knee) popped up on the injury report this week, but he practiced in full on Friday and does not carry an injury designation into this weekend's game against the Dolphins. The rookie has totaled 178 rushing yards, 113 receiving yards, and a pair of touchdowns en route to ranking as the RB17 so far. His 28 targets are the second-highest among running backs, and he also ranks sixth in weighted opportunities (66.8).

To this point, Hall has commanded a 15.4 percent target share (seventh-most among running backs) while running 73 routes (13th-most). He owns a 59.8 PFF grade and has scored 69.4 or above in two of his four games.

Not only has Hall impressed opportunity-wise, but he has quickly solidified his stock in fantasy football, too. The rookie ranks eight in expected fantasy points per game (15.7) and fourth in breakaway run rate (10.5 percent).

Gone are the days of Michael Carter having clear superiority over Hall. The latter has quickly taken over the backfield, and while Carter is a fine FLEX option, Hall offers even more upside. He has totaled double-digit fantasy points in each of his four games and should be viewed as a solid top-24 option in fantasy football once again this week.

David Montgomery Injury Update

Montgomery (knee, ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Week 5. The Bears have a tricky matchup on tap against the Vikings, but they also have one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL. Therefore, if Montgomery is active and expected to see a large workload, he should be viewed as an RB2 in fantasy football. Otherwise, it would be Khalil Herbert warranting fantasy consideration, also as an RB2.

Tony Pollard Injury Update

Pollard (illness) missed Friday's practice and is officially listed as questionable for Week 5. At this point, it seems like the running back's availability is completely dependent on how he feels Sunday morning. If he is healthy enough to play, he should be viewed as a top-36 running back in fantasy football. Otherwise, he'll be held out and return to fantasy relevance next week. In either scenario, backfield-mate Ezekiel Elliott falls into the RB3 tier.

Brian Robinson Injury Update

Robinson (leg) returned to practice this week for the first time since being shot in a robbery attempt. He has impressed head coach Ron Rivera with his performance in practice, but the team has yet to activate him from the Non-Football Injury list. Such a decision won't come until Saturday. Even if Robinson is active for Week 5, he is the No. 3 back in the Commanders' offense and is too risky to start for the time being.

Kenneth Walker Injury Update

A shoulder injury forced Walker to log a limited practice session on Thursday and Friday. He is officially listed as questionable for Week 5. The rookie has operated as the clear backup behind Rashaad Penny, amassing just 58 rushing yards and 14 receiving yards through three games. Even if he's active on Sunday, Walker should not be started in fantasy football.

Tyrion Davis-Price Injury Update

Davis-Price suffered a high-ankle sprain roughly three weeks ago. Although there was some optimism about his availability, he did not practice at all this week and has officially been ruled out for Sunday's contest. Jeff Wilson Jr. will continue to operate as the clear lead back in San Francisco's offense.

Boston Scott Injury Update

Scott (rib) was limited in practice all week long and is officially questionable for Sunday's game. The 27-year-old missed last week's contest and has totaled just 31 scrimmage yards and one touchdown this season. Even if active, Scott is the clear No. 3 running back in Philadelphia and should be left on waivers in fantasy football. On the other hand, lead back Miles Sanders is coming off a huge week and projects as a solid RB2 option against Arizona.

Justice Hill Injury Update

Hill (hamstring) did not practice at all this week. As a result, he has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Mike Davis and Kenyan Drake will continue to operate behind J.K. Dobbins in Week 5.

Salvon Ahmed Injury Update

Ahmed (back) was limited in practice on Friday and is officially questionable for Week 5 against the Jets. The 23-year-old has played entirely on special teams this season, registering precisely zero offensive snaps. Even if Ahmed plays on Sunday, he should be left on waivers in all fantasy leagues.
