Brian Hoyer Placed On Injured Reserve
2 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been placed on the injured reserve. That means, Hoyer will miss at least the next four weeks of action. Mac Jones (ankle) is still banged up as well, so Bailey Zappe could be asked to start in Week 5. At this moment, it sounds like the Pats are leaning towards starting Zappe versus the Detroit Lions this week. That being said, fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option than Zappe for this upcoming week.

Aidan O'Connell Could Be Benched For Jimmy Garoppolo Or Brian Hoyer
1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce said he is not decided on who will start at quarterback on Thursday night against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers. Rookie Aidan O'Connell could be benched for Jimmy Garoppolo or even veteran Brian Hoyer after he failed to lead the Raiders to any points in the Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. A previous report by The Athletic's Vic Tafur suggested it would be likely the Raiders would bench O'Connell if he played poorly this week, but it turns out O'Connell may not even get a chance to play on Thursday at all. O'Connell has been pretty bad the last few weeks and only threw for 171 yards and an interception against Minnesota. The matchup is nice against LA, but whoever is starting under center for the Raiders on Thursday will be no more than a low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex leagues.

Brian Hoyer Extends Losing Streak
1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer completed 17 of 32 passes (53%) for 129 yards and two interceptions in the Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears. Hoyer, filling in for injured Jimmy Garoppolo, struggled to get the offense going at Soldier Field. The veteran quarterback had zero passing touchdowns and was sacked once. Hoyer has now lost 13 straight starts dating back to 2016. The Raiders got down big in this contest and eventually placed rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell in the game. O'Connell threw the only touchdown of the game for the Raiders in the fourth quarter. The Raiders take on the Detroit Lions in Week 8. The Lions have been middling against quarterbacks this season. Hoyer had a bad game, and it will be hard to trust him as a starter if Garoppolo misses more time. Fantasy managers should stay away from Hoyer regardless of the matchup.
Brian Hoyer Will Start At QB In Week 7
1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer has been named the starter ahead of Week 7 versus the Chicago Bears, per ESPN's Dianna Russini. This comes after the team ruled out Jimmy Garoppolo (back). It appears the Raiders are continuing to experiment with their options at the quarterback position. Rookie Aidan O'Connell drew the start when Garoppolo missed Week 4, but it was Hoyer who took over after Garoppolo departed versus New England last Sunday. The veteran journeyman will operate as the Raiders' quarterback again in Week 7, ranking as a mid-range QB3 for fantasy purposes. This development isn't great news for Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and other Vegas pass-catchers, though it helps that the Raiders have a soft matchup in the Bears.

Brian Hoyer Holds On For The Win
1 year agoLas Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer entered the game in the second half of the Week 6 win against the New England Patriots. Hoyer completed six passes on 10 attempts for 102 yards after Raiders starter Jimmy Garoppolo exited the game with a back injury. The veteran quarterback did not make any big mistakes and could hold onto the win for the Raiders. Hoyer also completed a big pass to Tre Tucker for 48 yards. It remains to be seen how severe Garoppolo's back injury is, but Hoyer will be a candidate to start in Week 7 if Garoppolo is forced to miss time. When Garoppolo was ruled out with a concussion in Week 4, rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell stepped into the starting role. However, that does not mean Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels will call on him again in the same situation. The Raiders take on the Chicago Bears in Week 7. The Bears have been one of the easier matchups for quarterbacks this season despite holding Kirk Cousins to a pedestrian stat line in Week 6. It was a decent effort, but fantasy managers should turn to other options even if Hoyer is named the Raiders starting quarterback against the Bears.
