Melvin Gordon III Touted By Head Coach
2 years agoDenver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III has fumbled away his opportunity to earn more touches in the offense over four weeks. However, the season-ending injury to his running mate Javonte Williams (knee) opens the door for the veteran to take on the lead back role. After fumbling for the fourth time this year in Sunday's game against the Raiders, the 29-year-old appeared to get benched for backup Mike Boone, leaving many to wonder how much trust the coaching staff has in him moving forward. On Tuesday, head coach Nathaniel Hackett spoke highly of the former Charger, referring to him as a "true pro" and calling the situation "a great opportunity for him to get right back out onto the field and prove himself." Whether this is because the team has limited options behind him remains to be seen, but all signs point to Gordon getting the first crack at the job with Boone and potentially Latavius Murray mixing in. He'll slot in as a volume-based top-30 back with top-24 upside, depending on the matchup and the extent of his role.
