Cam Akers A Risky Play In Week 3
2 years agoLos Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers goes to Glendale this Sunday to face the Arizona Cardinals in a divisional matchup with high-scoring potential. There are a few reasons why he is a risky start in Week 3. First, the volume split in the Rams backfield is unclear and likely to fluctuate from week to week. In Week 1, Akers only had three touches. In Week 2, he had 17 touches but still only scored eight PPR points. In Week 3, it is possible neither of the Rams running backs amasses many touches in what could be a pass-heavy shootout. Both the Rams and Cardinals rank in the top 10 in pass-to-run ratio. The 1-1 Rams come in as 3.5 point favorites on the road in a game with an expected total of 48.5 points. If it is a close game, LA will be throwing the ball a lot to take the lead or keep up with Arizona. Akers' unclear role in the Rams backfield, combined with the prospect for a lack of overall rushing volume, means Akers is best kept on the bench this weekend, barring an injury emergency.
