Dak Prescott Injury Update
The season was already looking bleak for the Dallas Cowboys due to injuries along the offensive line and in the wide receiver room, but things got even worse in Week 1 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dak Prescott left the Sunday night loss to the Buccaneers with a thumb injury, and after undergoing surgery, he'll miss over a month of action.
The offense of the Cowboys was struggling even when Prescott was under center, with the veteran quarterback getting hit on nearly play and a lack of weapons to target when he did have time to throw. Cooper Rush is expected to start in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals and it remains to be seen if Dallas expresses interest in signing anyone else.
Until Prescott returns to the field, the skill players on the Cowboys are going to see massive decreases in production, making them risky plays in fantasy football.
Justin Herbert Injury Update
It was an exciting showdown between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night, with the Chiefs prevailing 27-24. After taking a hard hit to the ribs in the fourth quarter, Justin Herbert is undergoing tests to discover the severity of his rib injury.
When Herbert sustained the injury, the young signal-caller was grimacing in pain and would be forced to miss a play. Herbert would return to the game, and deliver a pinpoint pass late in the fourth quarter, but there was another play where he could barely throw the ball out of bounds.
It remains to be seen what the diagnosis is for the gunslinging quarterback and we'll likely get more information in the coming days. The good news is that the original x-rays were negative and that he'll have an extra couple of days to prepare for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 if the injury isn't serious enough to sideline him.
Meanwhile, if Herbert is forced to miss time, everyone on the Chargers takes a massive hit to their value in fantasy football as Chase Daniel would be the starting quarterback.
Jameis Winston Injury Update
Jameis Winston led an impressive comeback for the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 versus the Atlanta Falcons to secure a 27-26 victory. Ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Buccaneers, Winston is on the injury report with a back injury.
The Saints are listing the former first-round pick as questionable for the team's impending showdown with the Buccaneers. It is unknown when the veteran quarterback sustained the back injury, but it should be noted that he was able to finish last week's game against the Falcons.
Winston has been limited in practice all week, so the team could simply be taking a cautious approach with their starting quarterback. Unless more information gets released, his injury doesn't appear to be anything that is going to prevent him from suiting up in Week 2.
Mac Jones Injury Update
The offense of the New England Patriots looked out of sorts in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins as New England was easily defeated 20-7. While Mac Jones suffered a back injury in the loss to the Dolphins, the second-year quarterback has been removed from the team's injury report.
The Alabama product took quite a few hits in New England's double-digit loss, so multiple hits could have led to his back injury. At the very least, Jones showed enough during practice this week to avoid missing any time and he'll be active on Sunday versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Even with T.J. Watt unavailable for the Steelers, it's hard to get excited about Jones in fantasy football this week.
