Detroit Tigers catcher Eric Haase (abdomen) is not in the lineup on Saturday vs. the Kansas City Royals. The 29-year-old took an unlucky foul ball in his "lower abdomen" during the first inning of Friday's game and was replaced by Tucker Barnhart after finishing the frame. It's no surprise that he's missing Saturday's contest as a result of the injury he sustained on Friday. Barnhart is once again replacing him in the lineup and will bat eighth against Kansas City starter Jonathan Heasley.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

Free-agent catcher Eric Haase signed a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Haase heads to the National League after having spent the 2023 season splitting time with the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians. In 89 games with both teams, he hit just .201/.247/.281 with four home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 26 RBI, four stolen bases and 22 runs scored in 293 plate appearances. The 31-year-old veteran did have a total of 36 home runs and 105 RBI in two seasons for the Tigers from 2021 and 2022, so he does have some notable pop in his bat at a weak position in fantasy. However, he will mostly serve in a backup role for the Brew Crew behind starting backstop William Contreras.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cleveland Guardians catcher Eric Haase elected to become a free agent on Wednesday. Haase began the 2023 season with the Detroit Tigers before joining the Cleveland Guardians. In 89 total games with both teams, he hit just .201 (55-for-274) with four home runs, eight doubles, a triple, four stolen bases and 22 runs scored in 293 plate appearances. He's been trying to replicate his 22-homer season in 2021 with the Tigers but hasn't been able to, and now he'll be looking to latch on with another team this winter. The 30-year-old backstop is a career .225/.276/.391 hitter with 41 home runs, 137 RBI, six stolen bases and 113 runs scored in 323 games over six big-league seasons with the Tigers and Guardians.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Cleveland Guardians claimed catcher Eric Haase off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Monday and designated catcher Zack Collins for assignment in a corresponding move. Haase will remain in the American League Central after being designated for assignment by Detroit last week. The 30-year-old backstop was originally drafted by Cleveland in the seventh round in 2011, and he made his major-league debut for the team back in 2018. He will immediately become the Guardians' backup catcher behind rookie Bo Naylor with Cam Gallagher (concussion) and David Fry (hamstring) currently sidelined with injuries. Haase hit just .201/.246/.284 with four home runs, 26 RBI, three stolen bases and 22 runs scored in 86 games for the Tigers this year before being cut.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Detroit Tigers catcher Eric Haase is expected to see an increased workload behind the plate in 2023. After the Tigers let Tucker Barnhart walk in free agency, it cleared a path for Haase to fill in as the starting catcher. The only catcher on the current roster other than Haase is 27-year-old Jake Rogers, who isn't a perennial major-leaguer. Haase made 84 appearances behind the plate in 2022 and even saw some outfield reps. He slashed .254/.305/.443 with 14 home runs and a .748 OPS. His bat has developed into a legit threat since going pro in 2018, and the Tigers may consider him in the long run if his bat continues to contribute. Haase will mainly be a flier in deep-league formats for 2023.--Rephael Negnewitzky
