Joe Burrow Injury Update
Joe Burrow has been unable to practice for the Cincinnati Bengals in recent weeks after undergoing an appendectomy. The Bengals were never concerned with Burrow's availability for Week 1 of the regular season and the third-year quarterback is officially throwing in pads during practice again.
Besides being able to throw the ball again, Burrow also took part in seven-on-seven drills over the weekend. The LSU product connected on quite a few passes in his return to practice and he looked as if he didn't miss any time with him showing good chemistry with his wide receivers.
Once again, the Bengals never showed uneasiness about Burrow's availability for their regular season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. For fantasy managers that are taking part in drafts right now or in the coming weeks, Burrow looks primed for another productive campaign in 2022 after leading Cincinnati to a Super Bowl a season ago.
Kirk Cousins Injury Update
The Minnesota Vikings announced last week that Kirk Cousins tested positive for COVID-19. The veteran signal-caller was forced to miss the team's preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, though it is unknown if the Vikings would've started him if he was available.
Cousins will need to test negative for COVID-19 before he can return to the Vikings. With weeks to go until the regular season kicks off, Minnesota expects their experienced quarterback to be back in the starting lineup in time for their Week 1 bout with the Green Bay Packers.
Upon the arrival of former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell as the team's new head coach, there are heightened expectations for Minnesota's offense. At the quarterback position, Cousins is a decent value at his late-round ADP, even with him missing time due to COVID-19.
Zach Wilson Injury Update
The preseason can be brutal for teams when it comes to injuries and the New York Jets sustained an injury to Zach Wilson in their preseason opener. Despite the initial concerns of Wilson suffering a torn ACL, it appears that the Jets received positive news about his knee ailment.
The Jets aren't ruling out the second-year quarterback in Week 1 of the regular season, but New York will likely be cautious with Wilson due to him being the team's hopeful long-term franchise quarterback. Wilson will be undergoing surgery on Tuesday, so we'll have a better understanding of his expected timetable to return soon.
Amid Wilson's absence, veteran Joe Flacco is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Jets. The fantasy value of guys like Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis, Breece Hall, and Michael Carter shouldn't change much with Flacco or Mike White at quarterback to begin the 2022 season.
Darren Waller Injury Update
Darren Waller has been absent from practice for the Raiders in recent weeks and many were questioning why. While some wondered if Waller's mysterious absence from practice was due to his contract situation, Las Vegas revealed that the athletic tight end is nursing an injury.
It has since been revealed that Waller is dealing with a hamstring injury and the Raiders are just being cautious with the Pro Bowl tight end.
Even with the signing of Davante Adams this offseason, Waller should continue being a go-to weapon for Derek Carr, especially in the red zone. Unless the Raiders say themselves that the veteran tight end's injury is serious enough to be a problem in the regular season, Waller is firmly on track for another TE1 finish in 2022.
Zach Ertz Injury Update
Zach Ertz is entering his first full season with the Arizona Cardinals and there are lofty expectations for the veteran tight end. Ahead of the team's preseason opener against the Bengals, Kliff Kingsbury iterated that Ertz has been unable to practice due to a calf injury.
The Cardinals are likely being cautious with the 31-year-old tight end and the injury doesn't seem to be anything that will prevent him from missing time in the regular season.
DeAndre Hopkins will miss the first six games of the 2022 season due to a suspension, so Ertz should have an expanded role in Arizona's offense to begin the year. Despite not being in the same tier as Waller, Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, and George Kittle, Ertz can still be a consistent source of production at an inconsistent position in fantasy football.
