The Washington Commanders used their first-round pick (No. 16 overall) in the 2022 NFL draft to select Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson. Dotson stands 5'11" and weighs 183 pounds and will team with Terry McLaurin to give new Washington quarterback Carson Wentz two talented receivers to target.
Dotson was the RotoBaller consensus rookie WR8 predraft and slid to WR9 following the 2022 NFL draft. He checks in as the No. 140 overall player (WR56) in RotoBaller's PPR redraft ranks.
Rookie fantasy wideouts can be tricky to navigate in redraft formats as there is still not enough information on tape to show how they will produce in the NFL. For every Odell Beckham Jr., who was dominant in his rookie season, there are plenty of first-round WRs who bust, such as Corey Coleman.

Will Jahan Dotson Be Useful For 2022 Fantasy Football?
Dotson put some impressive stats on the board in college at Penn State, catching 20 total touchdowns over his junior and senior seasons, spanning 21 games. His senior year was especially impressive as he caught 91 passes for 1,182 yards, including an 11-catch, 127-yard game against Ohio State and an 11-catch, 242-yard, three-touchdown game against Maryland.
Dotson also ran well at the NFL Combine, posting a 4.43 40-yard dash. He has reportedly been impressive in camp with Washington, showing good hands on this pass from Wentz...

The 22-year-old rookie is slated to see plenty of playing time for Washington in 2022, as he is already listed as a starter alongside McLaurin and Curtis Samuel on the team's unofficial depth chart.
Jahan Dotson 2022 Fantasy Football Rookie Outlook
Dotson definitely has some breakout potential and is showing the training camp flashes that Washington fans and fantasy gamers would want to see out of a first-round wide receiver.
He also comes at a reasonably cheap price in fantasy drafts as a late 14th or early 15th-round pick according to ADP. Other players coming off the board around Dotson include Robbie Anderson, Wan'Dale Robinson, Nico Collins, and Josh Palmer.
The rookie certainly has sleeper appeal but the main concern here is whether Carson Wentz is capable of supporting two fantasy wide receivers in 2022. Wentz has not looked good over the past few years, most recently getting run out of Indianapolis after just one season.
In Wentz's lone campaign with the Colts, Michael Pittman finished as the WR17 in PPR scoring. The next best Colts receiver after Pittman was Zach Pascal at WR74.
The Commanders don't project to have a great offense in 2022 and will likely lean on the running game, as the Colts did in 2021. That leaves McLaurin to soak up most of the fantasy production, which leads one to wonder how many targets will there be for Dotson.
This wouldn't be an issue if he played on an elite offense such as the Buffalo Bills or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ultimately, Dotson is worth a flier late in fantasy drafts, especially if he slips past the 15th round, but don't hesitate to release him if he doesn't produce much over the first few weeks of the season.
